AlBrook Girls Compete in North Central All-Star Game

Three members of the AlBrook girl’s basketball team competed recently at the 5th Annual North Central All-Star games in Bemidji. This All-Star series featured four girls’ teams and six boy’s teams. There were also skills contests for both the boys and the girls.

Katie Capriglione, Sabrina Matuszak, and Abigail Otis took part in the Red-Black All-Star Game. It was the Girls Black Team Coached by AlBrook head coach John Villebrun that downed the Red All Stars by a score of 59-58. Matuszak played for the Black All Stars and Capriglione and Otis played for the Red All Stars.

The Black All Stars were led by Hannah Rutten, of New York Mills, who had 28 points, Aamista Goggleye, of Cass Lake-Bena had 9, Matuszak, as well as Betsy Smith and Ashley Mertens of East Grand Forks all had 6 points, and Jessica Fink of Bertha Hewitt finished with 4.

The Red All Stars were led in scoring by Ashley Tinglestad, of East Grand Forks with 21 points, Otis had 13, Hannah Hogenson, of Roseau and Abby Berven, of Frazee each scored 9 points, and Kendra Stokes, Bertha-Hewitt ended with 6.

Hannah Rutten of New York Mills was named the MVP for the Girls All-Star series. Abigail Otis finished second in the three point shooting contest, finishing behind Betsy Olsen of Sebeka.
