Greyhounds defeat Blue Devils

VIRGINIA, Minn— The Duluth East Greyhounds traveled to Virginia to take on the Blue Devils last night. It was an exciting game, and the hounds would come out on top with a 3-1 win over the devils.

East took the first two games 25-21 and 25-17. The Blue Devils fought back and took the third game 25-14, but the Greyhounds would come out on top in an exciting fourth game 30-28.

Greyhound Junior Setter Alayna Baker ran the team with 42 set assists and also added 3 ace serves. Senior Bailey Romans led the hounds offensively with 23 kills and 6 blocks, followed by Senior Marissa Mielke with 11 kills and 6 blocks. Sophomore Daisy Hoops added 6 kills for East. Defensively, Freshman Libero Maya Callaway had an amazing 26 digs. Callaway also added 4 ace serves.

Virginia was led by Freshman Middle Hitter Lexi Ahrens with  21 kills, 4 ace serves, 7 digs, and 4 blocks. Senior Emily Pluskwik added 10 kills and 21 digs, and Junior Taija Harju had 6 kills on the night. Senior Setter Mackala Palo had 38 set assists and 6 digs. Senior Hayley Lundgren had 3 ace serves.

Duluth East will take on Washburn, while Virginia will travel to International Falls on Monday. Game times are 7:00 pm.
