Hawkinson’s 40 Propels Mercs Past Wrens

The McGregor Mercuries took on the Wrenshall Wrens on Friday night in a game that would see Abby Hawkinson and  the Mercuries hold the advantage throughout the game to win 80-15.

The Mercuries ran out to a 54-8 lead at the half and kept their foot on the gas as they would outscore the Wrens 26-7 in the second half to ensure their Section 7A playoff victory.

Hawkinson would drop 40 points in the victory including hitting 5 from deep. Following Hawkinson was Korinna Mickelson with 13 points. Amy Gelhar added 8 in the win, Kendra Mickelson and Danelle Demenge notched 6, Stacia Staska pitched in 4, Shelby Kelly added 2, and Gretchen Grams topped it off with 1.

In the loss for the Wrens, Delaney Kittel scored 7, Shana Laveau pitched in 5, Brianna Brim notched 2, and Brittany O’Brien topped it off with 1 on the night.

The Wrens end their season with a disappointing 3-23 record. The No. 1 seeded Mercuries improve to 22-4 on the year and will face the No. 4 seeded South Ridge Panthers (14-12) on Saturday, March 8th at UM-Duluth in the Section 7A quarterfinals. They tipoff at 7:30 PM.
