Jacks edge Eskomos

The Cloquet Lumberjacks came from behind Friday night as the Lumberjacks knocked off the Esko Eskomos by a score of 42-40 at Esko High School in an cross town rivalry contest.

The Eskomos controlled the first half as they took a seven point lead into the locker room at halftime with a score of 23-16, behind some good defense, outside shooting, and a balanced attack.

The Lumberjacks however would come back Friday as they worked the ball inside to Kassidy Steen and Jaiden Cofield helped control the Jacks offense as the Lumberjacks pulled out the two point road win.

The Lumberjacks were led by Steen who finished with 16 points and she also hauled in 10 rebounds in the Cloquet victory. Jaiden Cofield added 11 points and she also had 5 steals for the Lumberjacks.

Rounding out the Lumberjack scoring was Samantha Zeadow with 6 points, Kaylee McMillen finished with 4, Hazel Ericson added 3 and it was Anna Fossen rounding out the scoring with 2 points.

Freshman Ava Gonsorowski was the lone Eskomo in double figures as she finished with 15 points for Esko in the loss which snapped their 14 game winning streak. Kailee Katt and Bailey Mudek both added 6 points, and Judy Wagemaker chipped in with 5 points for the Eskomos.

The Eskomos fall to 14-2 on the season and they are back in action again on Monday night when they will host the Superior Spartans in a non conference match-up.

The Lumberjacks improve to 11-5 overall and they will face the Hermantown Hawks next Thursday night at Hermantown High School, in a conference and a sectional battle.
