ESKO – The Esko Eskomos withstood a late comeback by the Moose Lake-Will River Rebels to win this Polar League contest in extra innings on Tuesday afternoon in Esko. Despite the cold and wind on Tuesday, the Eskomos prevailed in the bottom of the eighth inning to beat the Rebels by a score of 5-4.

Richard Jubie led off the bottom of the eighth with a double, and on the second pitch to the next batter, he stole third base.
He then scored the winning run when the throw to third base sailed into left field.

The Eskomos led most of the game Tuesday afternoon. They scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning. Adam Deveau singled, stole second, and then was driven in by a single from Jordan Balow. Balow scored on a single from Josh Green to end the second inning with a 2-0 lead. Deveau scored in the fourth inning to give Esko a 3-0 lead. The Eskomos made it 4-0 in the fifth with a Max Reinertson walk. He then stole second base and scored on a RBI single from Richard Jubie.

The Rebels bounced back with two runs in the top of the sixth inning. Abe Young singled to start the sixth, which was followed by a double from Michael Unzen. Both runners scored on a RBI single from Adam Ryan that cut the lead to 4-2. In the top of the seventh, the Rebels responded again by scoring two runs to tie the game and send it to extra innings.

Rudy Ketchum started the seventh with a double, Abe Young then singled in pinch runner Nathan VanZee to cut the lead to 4-3. Young advanced to third on a throwing error by Esko, allowing Unzen to reach first. Unzen then stole second and Rejean Carlson singled to right scoring Young. Yet, a strong throw from Balow in right field nailed Unzen at the plate as he was trying to score the go ahead run.

With the win, the Eskomos improve to 2-0 on the season and are in action on Thursday when they play at Silver Bay. The Rebels fall to 1-1 on the season and are in action again Friday when they play at Barnum.
