Thunder Women Sweep Northland

The Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College Thunder softball team scored 31 runs in sweeping a doubleheader at home against Northland Community and Technical on Saturday afternoon. The Thunder won the first game by a score of 20-1 and the second by a score of 11-3.


The Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College Thunder softball team extended their current winning streak to four games by defeating Northland Community and Technical College in a doubleheader at Braun Park. The Thunder improved their season record to 6-7-1 overall and improved their Minnesota College Athletic Conference record to 4-2.


Pitcher Dana Letica of Proctor continued her winning ways on the mound, striking out 11 and giving up only two hits in the first game. She followed that with 3 more strikeouts and spread out 8 hits in the second game. Letica helped support her pitching performance in the first game by going 4-for-4, including three doubles. Anna Engelmeier was 4-for-4, Steph Engelmeier was 3-for-5, and Kortney Lindberg was 3-for-4 with a home run and a double. Taya Flaim contributed a pinch-hit triple and 2 RBIs, and Emily Peterson had a pinch-hit double to knock in a run.


In the second game, Letica was strong again with the bat, going 2-for-3 with 2 doubles. Jen Pederson was 2-for-2 at the plate, and Megan Johnson had 2 hits, scored 2 runs and stole 2 bases including home base. Johnson also successfully stole home base in a game on Friday.


The Thunder go on the road this week with double headers at Mesabi Range Technical and Community College on Wednesday, April 14, at Itasca Community College on Saturday, April 17 and at Hibbing Community College on Sunday, April 18.
