Duluth Marshall pounced on Hibbing/Chisholm in boys hockey on Tuesday as the Hilltoppers skated away with a 7-3 victory over the Blue Jackets.

Derek Farrell of Marshall, and Hibbing’s Joe Kanipes traded first period goals to make it 1-1 after one period.

The Hilltoppers struck for four goals in the second period, while the Blue Jackets added a pair of tallies.  Anthony Miller scored on the power play at 2:39 for the Hilltoppers with Miller McKinzie and Nate Johnson adding assists.  That was followed by a Joe Daly goal, a Jack Dodd goal and  Cam McClure goal as Marshall built the lead to 5-1.  However, the Blue Jackets struck back before the second period ended with goals from Ty Birdsall and Joe Lescarbeau to pull Hibbing to within 5-3 after two periods of play.

Marshall took away any hopes of a Hibbing comeback when Luke Pavelich scored at 8:14 and then Joe Daly added another Marshall goal at 14:11 for the final score of 7-3.

Marshall put 33 shots on the Hibbing/Chisholm net, while the Blue Jackets put 9 shots on Marshall goalie Alex Murrady.
