Border Battle Basketball Rosters Announced

The Duluth Amateur Youth Basketball Association (DAYBA) announced today that they will be sponsoring the DAYBA Second Annual High School Seniors’ “Border Battle” All-Star basketball games. The contests will feature the best high school seniors from Northeastern Minnesota and North Central Wisconsin competing in head-to-head matchups on April 10, 2010 at the University of Minnesota Duluth’s Ralph Romano Gymnasium.

Several NSO area athletes are scheduled to participate in the event including the trio of Barnum players Sara Myhre, Katrina Newman, and Leah Nordvall.

Cloquet’s RaRa Jones and Michael Swartz of Hermantown will compete in the boys contest.

The girls’ all-star game will begin at 6:00 PM, with the boys’ contest scheduled for 8:00 PM.

Prospective players were selected from an expansive search area, ensuring that the top seniors will be participating. “We put a huge effort into evaluating these players. I feel we selected the best of the best. If you like basketball, these will be true all-star games, the top seniors from Northern Minnesota playing against the top seniors from North Central Wisconsin,” says events spokesperson Jim Schwarzbauer.

Last year’s inaugural event, which was hosted at UW-Superior, drew close to 1,000 spectators who witnessed a thrilling 103 – 102 overtime victory by the Wisconsin boy’s team. “This is DAYBA’s continued effort to further promote basketball in the area, and the Border Battle will be a showcase event which will do just that,” said board chairman Mike Gerber.
