The 2009-2010 Miss Minnesota girls basketball finalists were announced with Barnum’s Katrina Newman selected as one of the five finalists by the Minnesota Coaches Association. Newman helped lead her Bombers to the State Championship in Class A.

The five finalists named were Newman from Barnum, Sari Noga from Parkers Prairie, Cassie Rochele from Lakeville North, Megan Waytashek of Centennial, and Taylor Young from Edina High School.

Newman is looking to be the first northern player named Miss Basketball since Duluth East’s Denise Holm was honored in 1985. The only other Northern Minnesota player to win this award was Annie Adamczak from Moose Lake back in 1982 when they were the state champions.

Tayler Hill was named the 2008-2009 Miss Minnesota basketball player of the year. Hill is now attending Ohio State University where she is the team’s starting point guard. The award will be announced at a later date.
