Local All-State Players Led By Barnum’s Newman

Barnum’s Katrina Newman added another award to the several she has already achieved in her career. Newman was one of ten players chosen to the 2009-2010 first team all-state. Last season she was named honorable mention.


Newman led the Bombers to their first ever girls state basketball championship and finished her high school career with over 2000 points. This season, she averaged 23.4 points per game, 9.3 rebounds, shot an amazing 64% from the field and averaged over 4 assists per game.


Newman, a five year player on the Bombers varsity team, saw extensive playing time as an eighth grader and was a starter for Barnum during her freshman season. Newman will move on next season and use her basketball skills at UMD for the Bulldogs.


The other members of the all state team include freshman fuard Rebekah Dahlman from Braham, junior guard Rachel Banham of Lakeville North, Kayla Hirt junior forward from Bemidji, Sari Noga senior guard from Parkers Prairie, senior center Cassie Rochele from Lakeville North, Angela Christianson senior guard from Alexandria, sophomore guard Tessa Cichy of Hill Murray, senior forward Megan Waytashek of Centennial, and Taylor Young a senior forward from Edina.


The player of the year was junior guard Rachel Banham of Lakeville North. Banham helped lead the Panthers to the Minnesota Class 4A Championship with a win over White Bear Lake, and an undefeated season with an overall record of 32-0.
