Last season the Barnum Bombers fell to the Isle Huskies in the Section 5A Quarterfinals. Two years ago it was Barnum beating Isle in the Section 5A semi-finals so it was only fitting that these two teams battled to another close contest Tuesday night at East Central High School in Askov. It would be the Bombers losing to the Huskies for the second straight season as Isle hung on to beat Barnum 57-49.

The Bombers came out cold in the first half shooting only 6-30 from the field which allowed the Huskies to open up and maintain an early lead. The Bombers executed a great game plan defensively shutting down post Cole Oswald for the most part, holding the senior forward to only 14 total points where as on Saturday he scored 33 in the section quarterfinals

With Barnum shutting down the inside game of Isle they would soon rely on the outside shooting of Chris Blood who did not disappoint hitting six three-pointers on the night and led all scorers with 20 points on the evening.

With Barnum cold from the outside, Isle took an eleven point 27-16 lead into the locker room at halftime. The second half opened with Isle scoring the first eight points of the second half, but Barnum did not surrender as they fought back, cutting the lead to five points midway through the second half.

The Bombers got hot from the field with Nick White and Justin Newman connected on five three-pointers, but again Isle answered back and built the lead to 11 with two minutes remaining. The Bombers didn’t quit again fighting tooth and nail until the very end, but eventually coming up eight points short.

The Bombers were led in scoring by Nick White and Justin Newman, both finishing with 13 points on the night. Josh Hogan poured in 7 points, Andrew Youngren and Bobby Minkkinen each ended with 6, Jacob Naslund had 3 and Taylor Carlson closed out the scoring with 1 point.

The Bombers season comes to an end with an overall record of 24-5 on the year. Isle improves to 22-6 and will face Sebeka in the section finals on Friday night in Crosby with the section 5A championship on the line.

Northland Sports Online would like to congratulate the graduating seniors from this year’s team on all their hard work and dedication to the Barnum Basketball Program. Those three seniors are, Nick White, Derek Sack, and Taylor Carlson.
