CEC falls to Hibbing

   Tough times continued for the Cloquet-Esko-Carlton girls hockey team on Monday night with a 5-1 road loss to Hibbing/Chisholm.  The loss follows a 9-0 thumping by Benilde-St. Margarets on Saturday in the Twin Cities.

H/C jumped all over the Jacks in the first period with three goals in the opening stanza.  The Blue Jackets started the scoring at 11:27 of the opening period on the power play when Mallorie Iozzo scored off a feed from Erin Scovill.  A little over two minutes later, at 13:44 it was Sarah Fairbanks scoring from Madi Sanders and then at 16:03 it was another power play tally from Nichole DeBoom to make it 3-0 after a period of play.

The lone goal of the second period was scored by Fairbanks, her second goal of the game, at 12:30 pushing the lead to 4-0.

Lilly Rewerz scored at 5:39 of the third period giving the Blue Jackets a 5-0 lead before CEC’s Rachel Macaulay cut the lead to 5-1 on an assist by Mikayla Baker at 12:59 with a power play goal.

For the game Fairbanks scored two goals and added one assist, Iozso chipped in with a goal and two assists and Erin Scovill recorded two assists.

CEC goalie Stacy Nelson finished with 28 saves and Erin Genereau added four saves for a total of 32 saves on 37 shots.  CEC put 33 shots on Megan Frider who finished with 33 saves.
