MORA – The Barnum Bombers used hot outside shooting Saturday night to open up the inside and come away with a big Section 5A quarterfinal win over Northland. The Bombers defeated the Eagles 67-51.

Barnum hit its first of four three-pointers to open up an early lead and never looked back, winning this game by 16 points. Nick White hit two three-pointers and Justin Newman and Josh Hogan all hit three-pointers at the start of the game.

With Barnum shooting well from the outside, Northland was forced to loosen up the zone they were playing. As a result, Barnum was able to penetrate the basket and come away with some easy points. Taylor Carlson had several drives with some acrobatic moves that converted into easy buckets.

“Nick White had a heck of a game for us,” head coach Richard Newman told Northland Sports Online. “His defense off the top was outstanding and was a key for us tonight. It was nice to hit shots from the outside which opened up the inside game.” Newman also mentioned, “Andrew Youngren had a wail of a game and he fought for every rebound tonight, he works so hard inside.”

Barnum built a 16 point (31-15) lead at halftime and maintained it in the second half. Barnum built a lead of up to as many as 22 at one point, but Northland fought back to close the ending margin at the final buzzer.

Barnum was led by Taylor Carlson and Nick White, who both had 13 points on the night. Josh Hogan added 11 points and Jacob Naslund added 10 in the Barnum victory. The Bombers improve to 24-4 on the season and will face Isle in the Section 5A semi-finals 7:00pm Tuesday night at East Central High School.
