Josh Belden scored 27 points and the Floodwood Polar Bears parlayed an explosive second half into a 71-48 win over Wrenshall in Section 7A boys basketball playoff action on Thursday night.

The Polar Bears held a slim 26-24 halftime lead, but they pumped things up in the second half and outscored the Wrens 45-24 to take the win going away.

Belden led all scorers, but the Polar Bears got plenty of help from Amos Blanton (15 points) and Zach Heggedahl (11 points). Rounding out the scoring for Floodwood were Jared Schminski with nine points, Lance Russ with five points, and two points each for Ross Schminski and Jason Myrvold.

Brett Johnson and Aaron Gustafson led the Wrens with 19 and 14 points respectively. Also scoring for the Wrens were Bryce Schmidt and Anders Lund with six points each and Pat Gustafson with three points.

The game at times resembled a long-range bombing as each team was tossing the ball up from outside the 3-point line. The Polar Bears hit 12 3-pointers in the game, while the Wrens hit six. Floodwood also was strong at the free throw line by hitting 9-of-10, while Wrenshall was 4-for-6.
