Lumberjacks top Spartans

The Cloquet Lumberjacks beat the Superior Spartans for the first time in 12 years as the Lumberjacks took control of the Lake Superior Conference with the 61-46 victory on Thursday night.

The Lumberjacks who started fast built up a 31-22 point lead at halftime as the Lumberjacks shot almost 55% from the field in the first half. Adam Laine cored the Lumberjacks first 8 points of the game and a Maxx Brenner 3-pointer broke a 10-10 tie as the Jacks never looked back on the night.

Laine finished with a game high 36 points to lead Cloquet on the night, both Mason and Maxx Brenner finished with 6 each, and it was both Zach Gerlach & Jake Bushey finishing with 5, while rounding out the scoring was Nate Weets with 3 points for Cloquet.

The Spartans had two players in double figures as Connor Gray and Jake Libal both ended with 12 points in the loss Thursday night.

The Lumberjacks move to 10-1 on the season and they will be back in action Monday night when they will face MLWR at Moose Lake High School.

The Spartans fall to 3-4 overall on the year and they are back in action again on Tuesday night when they will take on the Hawks of Hermantown at Hermantown High School.

Cloquet — Adam Laine 36, Maxx Brenner 6, Mason Brenner 6, Zach Gerlach 5, Jake Bushey 5, Nate Weets 3. Totals 24 7-12 61.
