Early on in their game against Eveleth-Gilbert on Thursday night it was apparent that the Jacks had a huge advantage inside with sophomore Kassidy Steen.  Steen finished with 22 points in leading the Jacks to the 67-46 win.

The Jacks first seven points came from Steen, but then the sophomore picked up her second foul midway through the first half and that allowed the Golden Bears to hang close.  At halftime the Lumberjacks led it 32-27, but that changed quickly when Steen re-entered the game at the start of the second half and helped lead Cloquet on a big run and to the easy win.

While Steen was warming the pines in the first half the Lumberjacks relied on the outside shooting of Jaiden Cofield and Kaylee McMillen to keep their lead.  Cofield finished with 13 points and McMillen added 11 points.  Joining that duo was Hazel Erickson who added a pair of 3-pointers in scoring 10 points.

A couple of keys to the win were the unsung efforts of Sami Zeadow on defense and the inside play of Tara Longseth who filled in admirably in Steen’s absence.  Zeadow had the tough task of defending the quick moves of Katelyn Rice.  Rice added 22 points, but Zeadow managed to keep the tricky guard at check enough so that the Jacks were able to secure the win.

Longseth chipped in with a solid effort of eight points, it was two points for Jessica Stone and Zeadow added a point
