he Cromwell Cardinals were trailing by thirteen points with 8 minutes remaining in the second half of their game against Floodwood Tuesday. However, the Cardinals came back to pick up a big Polar League win at 57-49.

Floodwood built a six-point (30-24) lead at half time and were cruising as the second half started. Cromwell then took over, mounting a comeback and coming away with the win at home.

“Ryan Hutar hit some shots down the stretch which sealed the win for us,” head coach Bill Poncernich told Northland Sports Online. “Being down thirteen points so late in the game, it was just awesome how the kids fought back to take this game.” Poncernich went on to say, “Jordan (Smith) had another huge night and he is only six points away from 1000 for his career.”
Smith finished with 29 points in the Cromwell win.

Following Smith in scoring was Ryan Hutar with 15 points, Nolan Wester had 7 points and Pat Dahl finished with 5. Smith also hit 3 three-pointers for Cromwell in the win. Amos Blanton led the Polar Bears with 18 points on the night. Zach Heggedahl and Ross Schminski each finished with 10 points on the night, while Josh Beldon added 7. Jared Schminski rounded out the scoring with 7 in the loss.

Cromwell improves to 12-9 on the season and is in action again on Friday in a non-conference contest against Onamia. Floodwood falls to 15-7 on the season and play at Silver Bay on Saturday afternoon.
