Hermantown Scores Home Win Against Virginia

Coming off of a huge win over Duluth East, the Hermantown Hawks were looking to make it two in a row when they hosted the Virginia Bluedevils on Saturday. With the help of 12 different Hawks in the scoring column, they were able to down Virginia 65-45.


With the Section 7AAA playoffs just around the corner, Hermantown appears to be back to playing some real solid basketball. They had back to back wins over Duluth East and Virginia and just one game to go in the regular season.


The Hawks started out strong and never looked back, building a 38-17 halftime lead. In the second half ,it was more of the same with the Hawks having the inside game working well, led by Jessica Love who scored 15 points on the afternoon for the Hawks.


Besides Love, Hermantown was aided by Ally Dieryck with 11 points. Rachael Hoium and Nicole Kucza added 8 points apiece, Carmen Bergstedt 5, Mary Neumann 4, Katie Thun and Andrea Enockson with 3, and Nicole Niemi, Melissa Madison, Lydia McMillan, and Jess Harper all added 2 points each. Sam Silcox was the only Bluedevil able to get into double figures for Virginia with 10 points.


With the win, Hermantown is now 14-10 on the season. They will finish up the regular season portion of the 2009-2010 campaign when they travel to Duluth Central on Tuesday and begin 7AAA tournament action on March 2.
