Cloquet Girls Fall To Hibbing

The Cloquet Lumberjacks were hoping to pick up a “W” on the road Saturday, but it was the Bluejackets that came away with the big section win by beating the Jacks 60-38.


The loss gives Cloquet a number six seed in the upcoming section playoffs. Cloquet was hoping to sneak out a win against Hibbing and then see if they could win a few next week to improve their seeding.


It was Hibbing who came out strong in the first half, propelling themselves to an early lead and holding onto it going into the locker room at half. The Bluejackets were up 26-14 at the break. Hibbing did a good job of shutting down Annabel Morrisroe, holding her to 12 points on the night.


The second half saw Hibbing continue to add to their 12 point halftime lead, outscoring Cloquet by ten points in the second half to come away with the big Section 7AAA win.


Cloquet was led in scoring by Morrisroedwith 12 points on the night, Katie Pappas added 7 points, Kialee Kutter ended with 6, Carri Zeadow had 3 points. Kenzie Rathe, Mary Keller, Krista Schmitz, Claire Rosen and Jenna Beaupre all finished with 2 points in the loss for Cloquet.


Laicee Grahek scored 15 points to lead the Bluejackets in scoring, Hillary Bungardemn finished with 11, Katie Lange added 11, and Hailey Smith ended with 8 for Hibbing. The Bluejackets improve to 19-5 on the season and close out their regular season next Thursday at home when they host Chisholm.


Cloquet falls to 9-14 on the season and close out with three games next week. On Tuesday the Lumberjacks host Duluth East, Thursday they will play Providence Academy at home and Friday they finish the regular season at International Falls. One game note, Thursday game against Providence will start at 6:00 pm.
