The Cloquet girls basketball team had high hopes of coming away with two wins. However, poor execution, turnovers and poor free throwing shooting in the end caused them to fall twice this weekend. The Lumberjacks fell to Grand Rapids Friday by a score 47-34, and on Saturday night it was the Moose Lake-Willow River Rebels coming away with the 72-67 win.

Cloquet jumped out in front of the Thunderhawks Friday night in the first half, but Grand Rapids fought back and eventually took a 24-21 lead going into the locker room at halftime. Cloquet shot just 24% from the field in the first half and trailed by three. The second half saw the Thunderhawks come out strong, building a big lead and never looking back as they won by 13 points.

Jessi Corrick had a game high of 18 points for Grand Rapids and her teammate Sarah Stejskal added 11 points in the win. Annabel Morrisroe led Cloquet with 17 points on the night, while Katie Pappas finished with 8 points in the loss.

Looking to rebound from the loss on Saturdya, the Lumberjacks fell to the Rebels by 5 points. The game opened back and forth in the first half.
Cloquet built an 11-point lead, only to see it evaporate down to 3 at halftime. The Rebels came out ready to play in the second half and took it right to Cloquet. The Jacks were unable to answer the Rebels, eventually leading to ML-WR coming away with the 72-67 win.

Cloquet shot poorly both nights from the free throw line, going 9-23 on Friday and 16-36 on Saturday. Cloquet was also plagued by turnovers, committing 45 in the past two games. The Jacks were led by Annabel Morrisroe on Saturday with 30 points for Cloquet, while Brianna Henagin added 10 points. The Rebels were led by Maddy Adamczak with 24 and Natasha Dragicevich with 17.

Cloquet falls to 8-12 on the season and host Duluth Central on Tuesday. On Thursday, the Lumberjacks host Superior.
