Hunters Down St. Francis

Duluth Denfeld’s Wyatt Wutz and Steve MacIver each scored two goals and assisted on another as the Hunters defeated the St. Francis Fighting Saints by a score of 7-1 Saturday afternoon at Duluth Heritage Sports Center.

Kyle Wagener scored St. Francis’s only goal when he scored at the 5:54 mark of the first period but that was going to be all the scoring the Fighting Saints could muster as the Hunters would score the next seven goals.

Steve MacIver scored at 8:00 to tie the game at 1-1 on an unassisted goal. Kadin Ferguson scored at 15:54 to make it a 2-1 Hunter lead with assists to Ryan Rukavina and Logan Parszck. Jake DeCaro scored with just 19 seconds remaining in the period to make it a 3-1 Hunters lead.

Adam Shykes scored at the 8:04 mark of the second period to give the Hunters a 4-1 lead at that point. Wutz tallied the other two goals of the period to make it 6-1 after two periods of play. MacIver notched his second goal in the third period to make it the 7-1 final score.

River Alander stopped 26 shots for the Hunters in the win, and Denfeld improves to 2-4 and they will take on Hermantown on Tuesday night in Hermantown.

The Fighting Saints Logan Garaghty stopped 21 shots in the loss for St. Francis as they fall to 1-5 on the season and they will play at Spring Lake Park on Tuesday night.
