After defeating Hermantown in an overtime thriller on Thursday night, the Cloquet-Esko-Carlton boys hockey team picked up another impressive win. This time it was 5-3 victory over the Anoka Tornados.

Paul Ryan gave the Jacks a lead just 27 seconds into the first period with an unassisted goal. However, before the period ended, CEC was down 2-1 after goals by Cale Grinde and Andrew Olek that gave Anoka the lead.

With just 28 seconds remaining in the second period, the Lumberjacks tied the game on Ryan’s second goal of the game, this one on the power play, as Jack McFarlane and Ben Michaud assisted. The second period ended with the game even at 2-2.

McFarlane lit the lamp at 5:36 of the final period with Michaud and Ryan assisting to give CEC a 3-2 lead. Yet, Anoka answered with a goal at 8:23 on the power play to tie things at 3-3. The Lumberjacks finally took the lead for good at 13:07 when sophomore Connor Tollerud pumped in a goal with Jared Anderson assisting.
Michaud ended the scoring with an empty net goal with just 16 seconds left in the third period.

The game was a run and gun game with CEC goalie John Scheuer making 39 saves, while Anoka net minder Jeff Ramstad made 42 saves. In all, there were a total of 92 shots in the game.

CEC will host Duluth East at the CARC in Cloquet on Tuesday night.
