Thunder Sweep Rainy River Lock Playoff Spot

The Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College Thunder softball team improved their season record to 20-8 today by sweeping a road doubleheader in International Falls against Rainy River Community College.

With Friday’s sweep, the Thunder qualified for the Minnesota College Athletic Conference state championship tournament to be held May 2-3. This is only the second season of play for the Thunder softball program and the first time the team reached the 20-win mark and qualified for the postseason playoffs.

Leading the Thunder against Rainy River was Stacie Miller, who went eight-for-nine at the plate with nine runs batted in. Pitcher Joanna Vellekoop earned both victories.

First Game:

Fond du Lac 14, Rainy River 3: 5 innings

Second Game:

Fond du Lac 17, Rainy River 6: 5 innings

The final Thunder softball home doubleheader is scheduled for 1:00 pm on Saturday, April 25 at Braun Park in Cloquet (weather permitting).
