Coming off of a heartbreaking overtime loss, the Hermantown Hawks rebounded in a big way by beating Monticello-Annandale-Maple Lake 7-0 on Saturday. The Hawks displayed their depth by using seven different players to score seven goals.

Jarad Thomas started a three goal first period by scoring just 3:25 into the game. Forty seconds later, at the 4:05 mark, Chad Bannor scored and Garrett Skrbich put the Hawks up 3-0 at the 8:59 mark in a period that saw the Hawks outshoot Monticello 15-4.

Brett Ludwig scored the only goal of the second period at 4:57, giving Hermantown a comfortable 4-0 lead.

The third period was more of the same dominance for Hermantown with Adam Krause scoring an unassisted shorthanded goal 44 seconds into a Monticello power play. Mike Robertson and Charlie Comnick rounded out the third period scoring with a goal apiece, giving the Hawks the 7-0 home win.

Tiegen Brickson made 16 saves in picking up the shutout for the Hawks while his counterparts Aaron Boros and Gary Welch combined for 35 saves on 42 shots for the Monticello Stars. With the win, the Hawks now sport a 17-3 record.

Hermantown will play Duluth Denfeld in a huge “for all the marbles” matchup on Tuesday for outright ownership of the LSC title. The game was set up when Duluth Marshall tied Denfeld 3-3 and CEC upset Hermantown 3-2 in games last week.
