Jacks down Packers

Kyle Klatt and Derek Bloom scored first period goals en-route to a 3-1 victory over the South St. Paul Packers Saturday night at Northwoods Credit Union Arena.

Klatt scored just 33 seconds into the first period to put the Lumberjacks in front 1-0, assist went to Koby Bender and Ryan Lind.

Bloom scored at the 6:59 mark to make it 2-0 in favor of the Lumberjacks with an assist on the goal to Dalton Johnson.

The second period was scoreless, and in the third period James Newgren scored 35 seconds into the period to give Cloquet-Esko-Carlton the 3-0 leads.

The Packers scored their lone goal midway through the third period but it wasn’t enough as the Lumberjacks top the Packers for their first win of the season.

Zach Strom finished with 13 saves in the victory, while Kyle Jacobs stopped 41 shots for the Packers.

The Lumberjacks improve to 1-2-1 and they will face Cambridge-Isanti on Thursday in Isanti.

The Packers fall to 1-1-1 and they will take on Spring Lake Park on Thursday night at home in St. Paul.
