PHM Wins on Hockey Day

Proctor-Hermantown-Marshall laid claim to being the top local girls hockey team on Saturday with a 4-2 win over the Duluth Northern Stars in the final outdoor hockey game of Hockey Day in Hermantown, Minnesota on Saturday. The Mirage raced to a 3-0 lead and then added an empty net goal at the end of the game to take the victory.

The game was scoreless through one period, but the Mirage jumped on the Stars with three second period goals. The Mirage got back-to-back-to-back goals by Abby Miner, Rachel Rossiter and Justina Lindberg to build their 3-0 lead. Meanwhile, the Stars countered with a late goal in the second period by Frankie Bergman to cut the gap to 3-1 entering the final stanza.

In the third period, the Stars inched closer with a goal from Jane Goldfarb to cut the lead to 3-2, but an empty net goal late in the game by Niki Mathews ensured the win for the Mirage.

The Mirage outshot the Stars 29-16 for the game.
