Prowlers best Mirage

Kerry Rodd-NSO

The 3rd ranked Class A girls hockey team in Minnesota proved their ranking is not a fluke when the Thief River Falls Prowlers knocked off Proctor-Hermantown, the state’s 13th ranked team, 6-2 on Friday.
Reilly Fawcett put the Mirage on the board with a goal from Chelsea Swanson and Skylar Gunderson at the 3:29 mark of the first period.  However, the Prowlers answered with a Brandi Malwitz goal at 6:50 that tied the score at 1-1.  Before the first period ended the Prowlers answered with two more goals from Emily Bergland, which was shorthanded, and by Sylvia Marolt to give Thief River Falls a 3-1 edge after the opening stanza.
Kora Torkelson scored at 2:15 of the second period on a power play for the Prowlers and that was followed by another goal by Bergland at 5:11 that pushed the lead to 5-1.  Fawcett did her best for the Mirage by adding a goal at 6:25 that cut the lead to 5-2 entering the final period, but the only goal of the third period came from the Prowlers and they won the game going away 6-2.
The game was close from a shot-department standpoint with the Mirage putting 30 shots on Prowler goalie Frances Marshall and the Prowlers putting 35 shots on P-H goalie Kylie Hommerding.
