The Hermantown Hawks rolled to an early lead and then put things on cruise control on their way to a 7-1 win in running time over Superior on Tuesday night.

Corey Kolquist started the scoring barrage for the Hawks at 2:35 of the first period with an unassisted goal. Kolquist’s tally would be the first of three in the period. Cody Christopherson picked up goal number two at 8:12 on the power play with Connor Hady and Adam Krause adding assists. Garrett Skrbich closed out the first period scoring for Hermantown with a nifty goal at 12:59 that was assisted by Jared Thomas.

The second period saw the Hawks add four more goals as they pushed the lead to 7-0. At 3:04 it was a power play goal by Jared Kolquist with Christopherson and Krause assisting. Krause scored at 6:10 with Charlie Comnick notching the assist. Then it was Jake Knowles scoring at 7:17 and finally Thomas scored at 11:46 to end the scoring for the Hawks on the night.

Superior did manage a lone goal in the final period when Caleb Dushkin scored at 4:47 on the power play, but the game was far too out of hand for any type of Spartan comeback.

Tyler Ampe finished with 17 saves on 18 shots for the Hawks, while Joel Pettingill and Scott Crawford combined for 31 saves on 38 shots for the Spartans.
