McGregor Tops Northeast Range, Advance to Section Finals

The McGregor Mercuries would advance to the Section 7A finals with a big win over the Northeast Range Nighthawks on Thursday night. The Mercuries would have themselves a night, topping the Nighthawks in just 3 matches, winning them 26-24, 25-14, and topping it off with a 25-18 win.

Leading the way in the victory for the Mercuries would be senior Gretchen Grams who had 11 kills and 6 blocks. Also for the Mercuries, senior Korinna Mickelson and junior Amy Gelhar would each have 7 kills. Rounding it out for McGregor in the win would be senior Kendra Mickelson with 10 digs and senior Stacia Staska with 7 digs.

In the loss for the Nighthawks, junior Brielle Wills would have a nice performance of  11 kills and 10 digs. Also pitching in for Northeast Range would be senior Signe Scholl who would add 7 kills and 28 set assists, senior Katie Lenci who had 8 kills and 8 digs and topping it off would be senior Hayley Lilya who had 9 digs.

With the victory, the McGregor Mercuries improve their record to 20-7, which includes a 10 game winning streak that they hope to continue in the section finals. The Northeast Range Nighthawks would end their season with a nice 18-6 record.

In the Section 7A finals, the Mercuries will take on a familiar opponent and the top seeded Carlton Bulldogs in Deer River on November 2nd at 6 PM.
