Rebels Capture Third Place At Silver Bay Tourney

The Moose Lake Area Rebels boys hockey team captured third place in the Silver Bay Hockey Tournament on Wednesday with an 8-2 trouncing over Silver Bay-Cook County. The Rebels were led by the hat trick of Michael Unzen, who finished with a four-point night as he also added an assist in the win.

SB-CC grabbed a 1-0 lead with the only goal of the first period scored by Cody Larson. However, the Rebels countered with the only goal of the second period when Unzen tallied one 1:35 into the stanza, with the assist going to Chris Gassert. Things stood 1-1 heading into the third.

The final period was nothing short of crazy as 8 goals were scored, with seven of them being MLA’s. First, it was Unzen at 1:07 on the power play, followed by Ville Mattala on the power play at 4:58.
Then an Adam Ryan goal at 6:22, Josh Cisar scored at 8:03 and suddenly the Rebels were up 5-1. The Mariners responded with a goal by Shane Billings at 14:21 to cut the lead to 5-2, but the Rebels then notched another goal by Unzen at 14:36, a second goal by Mattala at 14:46 and finally by Jake Cisar at 15:42 to end the scoring.

Austin Lanoue made 23 saves on 25 shots for the Rebels and Darryl Hanson made 32 saves on 40 shots for the Mariners.
