Cloquet Girls Get Opening Win In Wood City Classic

CLOQUET – The Cloquet lady Lumberjacks defeated the Eagles of East Central on Tuesday in the opening round of the 2009 Wood City Classic holiday tournament. The Lumberjacks led 22-19 at halftime and went on to win by 10 with the final score being 52-42.

Annabel Morrisroe led Cloquet to victory as she exploded for twenty points in the second half alone. With no player able to stop Morrisroe down low, she was able to score at will and give Cloquet the win.

Morrisroe led all scorers with 26 points on the night. Brianna Henagin added 7 for Cloquet, Sarah McMillen finished with 6, Krista Schmitz and Kialee Kutter both added 4, Claire Rosen scored 3 and Katie Pappas finished with 2.

Audra McAllister led the Eagles with 13 points on the night, Sarah Diggan had 10 and Katelyn Thomsen finished with 9 on the night. The Eagles fall to 3-4 on the season and the Lumberjacks improve to 2-4.

The Lumberjacks will face the St. Paul Humboldt Hawks Wednesday at 6 pm in the second day of the Wood City Classic. The Eagles will face Ashland at 2 pm.
