A two-goal third period helped New Ulm rally from a one goal deficit and beat the Proctor Rails in boys holiday hockey tournament play on Tuesday.

The Rails picked up a goal by Lucas McCarthy at 15:53 of the first period and that would be the only goal of the game through two periods. McCarthy’s goal was assisted by Ian Ecklund.

New Ulm began the rally with a goal just 46 seconds into the third period when Kaleb Juntunen scored on the power play with assists to Adam Loose and Zach Fisher. Unfortunately, the Rails gave up another power play goal when Brody Peterson scored at 12:30 of the third with Fisher and Loose on the assists. That would be all the scoring to occur the rest of the game.

The game was a penalty marred affair as New Ulm picked up eight and the Rails notched seven penalties. The difference in the game was a 2-for-7 effort with the man advantage for New Ulm, while the Rails went 0-for-8 with the advantage.
