HERMANTOWN – Tuesday night’s matchup between Hermantown and Virginia-MIB had the makings of an exciting boys hockey game. The game didn’t disappoint a
packed house as the Hawks managed to come through with a 4-2 win. The crowd was also entertained with
an impressive display of goaltending from Blue Devils goalie Casey Myhre, who finished with a 31 save effort on the night.

Hermantown drew first blood on a Willis Kantonen goal just 2:51 into the period, but the Blue Devils answered back with a power play goal at 10:44 by Wes Judnick. The Hawks pulled ahead before the period ended on a Jared Thomas goal at the 14:17 mark as they took a 2-1 lead into the second period.

Kantonen made it 3-1 with a goal in the second period as Jeff Paczynski and Charlie Comnick added assists. It would be the only goal of the period.

The Hawks went up 4-1 in the third period with just 58 seconds left before the Blue Devils closed out the scoring with a goal by Judnick.

Myhre played well for the Blue Devils with his 31 saves, while Tyler Ampe made 11 saves for the Hawks.
