Boys Basketball

Cloquet 76 Proctor 22

The Cloquet Lumberjacks started fast on Friday as they rolled to the big win over the Proctor Rails at home. Cloquet built a 32 point halftime lead andeasily cruised to the win. RaRa Jones paced the Lumberjacks with 23 points on the night, while Chad Calcaterra added 12 and Andy Wappes chipped in 11. The Rails’ Kaz Anderson scored 6 in the loss.

Barnum 56 East Central 46

The Barnum Bombers won a big non-conference game in Sandstone on Friday night as they beat the Eagles by ten. Barnum continued with their good start to the early season in gaining their fifth straight win. The Eagles fall to 2-2 after starting out the season with winning their first two games.

Cromwell 61 Cook County 30

Cody Smith led the Cromwell Cardinals with 17 points Friday night as they beat the Cook County Vikings in a Polar League match-up in Cromwell. The Cards led 38-16 at halftime and went on to the 31 point victory. Smith’s 17 points led all scorers on the night, also leading the 10 Cardinals that placed themselves in the scoring column.

MLWR 68 Silver Bay 38


Lucas Probst’s 13 points led three Rebels who scored in double figures on Friday night as they beat Silver Bay on the road. Trevor Nummela and Rudy Ketchum scored 11 and 10 points respectively in the Polar League win. Luke Thun paced the Mariners on Friday by scoring 14 points on the night.

Two Harbors 59 Wrenshall 58

The Two Harbors Agates led by three at halftime (31-28) and held off the hosting Wrenshall Wrens on Friday. The Wrens made a second half run, but couldn’t close the gap in the end as the Agates win the Polar League game. Ryan Guentzel scored 22 points for the Agates and Aaron Gustafson led Wrenshall with 18.

Girls Basketball

Cook County 59 Cromwell 44

The Vikings of Cook County would come back after trailing at halftime 32-30 to outscore the Cardinals by 17 points in the second half. The Vikings’ burst brought them to the Polar League victory on the road Friday night. Essa Jacobsen led the Vikings in scoring with 15 points.
Makayleigh Cahoon led the Cardinals in scoring, pouring in 10 points in the loss.

Floodwood 56 Hermantown 37

After trailing by four points at halftime it would be the Polar Bears of Floodwood dominating the second half.
Floodwood outscored Hermantown 38-15 to come away with the 19 point win in the Esko Coach’s Classic on Friday. Alissa Autio led all scorers with 21 points, while Mary Neumann and Rachel Hoium each had 10 for the Hawks.

MLWR 79 Silver Bay 17

The Rebels of Moose Lake-Willow River led by forty at halftime and rolled to the big win as part of a boys-girls doubleheader Friday night in Silver Bay. Natasha Dragicevich led all scorers with 18 points on the night for MLWR. Leigh Lampton was the Mariners leading scorer, finishing with 8 points.

Esko 58 Nashwauk-Keewatin 49

The Esko Eskomos made the championship of the Esko Coach’s Classic Friday night by beating the Spartans of Nashwauk-Keewatin. The Eskomos led at halftime 36-21 and went on to win this one by nine. Keely Deadrick finished with 19 points, leading all scorers for Esko. Lindsey Kingsbury scored 14 for the Spartans.
