ML-WR Girls Softball Get 3-1 Win Over Carlton

The Moose Lake-Willow River Rebels were looking to rebound form a loss to Rush City when they traveled to Carlton Monday afternoon to take on the Bulldogs. The Rebels would win a close contest Tuesday with a score of 3-1.

The Rebels scored in the top of the first inning when Sam Juhl drove in Emily Wasche for the first run of the game. The Rebels would lead until the bottom of the fifth inning when Carlton would get there only run off of a Rebel error.

ML-WR would retake the lead in the top of the sixth when they scored two runs. Amanda Larson first scored on a RBI single by Hillary Peterson, then Katie Youngren would score on a RBI double by Kathryn Moonen. The Rebels would hold on and win the contest by two runs.

Kim Ergen went 3-4 with two doubles and a triple. Sam Juhl also was 3-4. Amanda Larson was 2-4 with a run scored. Katie Youngren was the winning pitcher, pitching a complete game 2 hitter; she faced only 29 batters, striking out five in the Rebel win.

“We played some really great defense today,” head coach Katie Collier told Northland Sports Online. “Katie pitched a great game and everyone stepped up behind her.” The Rebels now improve to 3-1 on the season. They will be in action Friday as they travel to East Central to take on the Eagles. Carlton, after starting the season 2-0, now falls to 2-3 on the season. The Bulldogs will be in action Thursday playing at Esko.
