ALBROOK – McGregor rode a strong second half performance to gain a 61-45 victory over AlBrook in girls basketball on Thursday night. The Mercs got a 30-point performance from Sarah Sample and pulled away after leading by just three points at halftime.

The Mercs led 25-22 in the first half, and then outscored the Falcons 36-23 in the second half to gain the victory. A big key in the win for the Mercs was their ability to get to the free throw line, going 19 for 30 from the charity stripe. Meanwhile, the Falcons were 11 for 17 from the free throw line.

Despite the tough loss, the Falcons’ first year head coach Stacie Marsolek was happy with the way her team played.

“I am proud of the girls,” said Marsolek after the game. “The girls don’t give up and if they are told to turn and run, they turn and run and do what they are asked.”

Hope Sorenson added 12 points for the Mercs, scoring all of their points from 15 feet and in to the basket.

Meanwhile, the Falcons got a 17 point effort from Abby Otis, 10 points from Kourtney Karppinen, Alyssa Johnson had nine points, Kendra Dahlman finished with six and it was three points for Marissa Thibault.
