CLOQUET – It was the Rachel Ramsey Show at the Cloquet Area Recreation Center on Saturday afternoon. The junior forward/defender showed why she has college scouts drooling as she led her Minnetonka girl’s hockey team to a 5-0 win over the Cloquet-Esko-Carlton-Lumberjacks.

Ramsey, who is the daughter of former Olympian and NHL player Mike Ramsey, picked up a pair of goals and an assist in leading the Skippers to a win on the road in Cloquet.

The Lumberjacks played brilliant defense in the first period and kept the game scoreless. Between the solid goaltending of Sarah Gustafson and the strategic defensive play, the Jacks held Ramsey off the board and kept her in check, affording her few chances in the opening stanza. That changed dramatically in the second period when Ramsey rifled a shot at Gustafson who made the initial save, but the rebound bounced to Jena Wilder and she slammed it home for a power play goal at 6:44. Before the period ended, the Skippers notched a goal from Laura Bowman at 14:52 on the power play.
Then it was Ramsey picking up a loose puck on a goal mouth scramble with just 18 seconds remaining in the period to give Minnetonka a 3-0 lead.

Ramsey added a goal in the third period and before the period ended it was Natalie Berg taking a tic-tac-toe type of pass and burying the puck behind Gustafson for a 5-0 lead.

Gustafson faced 46 shots and had a strong game between the pipes, while a combination of Skipper goaltenders faced just 14 shots from the Jacks
