Local Teams do Well in Volleyball Tournaments

Several area teams competed in local volleyball tournaments over this first weekend in October as local teams try to get their teams playing in top form as the playoffs loom in the near future.

In the Mora Invitational Tournament the Carlton Bulldogs finished 6th overall in the twelve team tournament. The Bulldogs went 1-1 in pool play as the Bulldogs defeated Unity by a score of 2-0, but came up short against Greenway as they lost 25-23 and 27-25.

The Bulldogs were then in the Silver Bracket and the Bulldogs beat Milaca 25-14 and 25-8 to set up a match with Becker for fifth place and it was the Bulldogs who pulled off the win in two close matches 25-17, and 25-22. North Branch won the tournament over Mora in three games.

The Two Harbors Agates hosted a six team tournament Saturday and it was the Denfeld Hunters who defeated the host Agates for first place in the tournament.

The Hunters went 2-1 in the tournament, beat Proctor in two straight games and their lone loss was to Cook County in three games. The Proctor Rails were third overall in the tournament.

The Bigfork tournament on Saturday saw the Northwoods Grizzlies defeat Littlefork-Big Falls to take home first place overall in the eight team tournament.

The Cromwell Cardinals finished third Saturday afternoon as the Cardinals opened with a victory over Laporte. The Cardinals then advanced to take on Littlefork-Big Falls and it was the Vikings who swept the Cardinals.

The Cardinals then played for third place and the Cardinals knocked off the Bigfork Huskies to take home third place with a 2-0 win over Bigfork.
