Big Lake Starts Fast downs Hunters

The Hornets of Big Lake scored 20 second quarter points Friday night as the Hunters fell to the the Big Lake Hornets. The Hornets picked up their first win of the season by a score of 34-12 in a Mississippi Conference match-up in Big Lake.

It was a potent air attack for the Hornets as Tyler Halverson connected on three touchdown passes on the night with all three going to Garret Poe. The Hornets also had an interception returned for a touchdown before halftime which gave the Hornets a 27-12 lead at the break.

Ben Halverson scored on a 52 yard touchdown run for the Hunters in the first quarter and Nick Malec scored on a 80 yard touchdown run in the second quarter from 80 yards out. The second touchdown run by Malec cut the Hornets lead to one point at 13-12.

The one point lead turned into a a seven point lead on Poe’s second touchdown catch of the game and the interception return gave the Hornets the fifteen point lead at the half.  Poe added his third touchdown catch in the fourth quarter to close out the scoring.

The Hunters fall to 0-6 on the season and they will be back home next Friday night when they will host Duluth East (0-6) in a cross town rivalry game at Public School Stadium.

The Hornets with the win improve to 1-5 overall on the season and they will face the Rogers Royals (6-0) at Rogers High School Friday night.
