Greyhounds top Hawks in Boys Soccer

The Duluth East Greyhounds boys’ soccer team picked up their seventh consecutive victory Wednesday night at the Greyhounds knocked off the Hermantown Hawks in a non-conference match-up at Duluth East High School.

The Greyhounds scored two first half goals, added two more in the second half as the Greyhounds pick up the win on a wet, rainy, chilly night in Duluth. Willy Atol scored two goals on the night to lead the Greyhounds and Wes Anderson scored a goal and added an assist in the victory.

Trygve Rennan got the Greyhounds on the scoreboard first when he scored at the 12 minute mark of the first half and Anderson was credited with the assist on the goal. Anderson then put the Greyhounds in front 2-0 at the 29^th minute when he scored a goal on an assist from Anders Saksa.

Duluth East would take a 2-0 lead into the break Wednesday, and the Greyhounds made it 3-0 when Atol scored the first of his two goals on the night. Colin Hietapelto had the assist on the goal.

The Hawks got on the scoreboard when Daniel Hedstrom scored on a penalty kick which gut the Greyhounds lead down to 3-1 at the 54 minute mark. Atol scored his second goal at the 60^th minute to make it a 4-1 East lead and that’s how the game ended. Jared Williams had the assist on the second Atol goal.

Josh Lenard finished with 9 saves for Hermantown Hawks in the loss and Hugh VanScoy ended with 3 saves in the Greyhounds victory. The Greyhounds who picked up their seventh win in a row have only allowed three goals in that stretch.

The Greyhounds improved to 11-3-1 on the season and the Greyhounds will close out their regular season on Saturday when they will take on the Grand Rapids Thunderhawks (5-7-2) in Grand Rapids.

The Hermantown Hawks fall to 8-5-1 and the Hawks will finish their regular season Thursday night when they will host Duluth Marshall (7-8) at Hermantown High School.
