Greyhounds top Superior

The Duluth East Greyhounds came from behind on Tuesday night as they Greyhounds knocked off the Superior Spartans 3-2 in a non conference match-up Tuesday night at Duluth East high School.

The Spartans opened up the match Tuesday by coming away with an 25-17 victory in the first game of the match to take a 1-0 lead. The Greyhounds responded by winning the second game of the match by a 25-18 margin.

With the match even at one game apiece the Greyhounds went ahead 2-1 with a 25-22 win in the second game of the match. The Spartans who saw their momentum slip away also fought back as they evened the match with a 25-19 victory in the fourth game of the night forcing a game five to decide the winner.

The Greyhounds responded in the fifth and deciding game of the match as the Greyhounds beat the Spartans 15-5 to win the match between these rivals across the lake.

The Spartans were led by Nicole Sorenson who finished the night with 23 set assists and she also had 15 ace serves for the Spartans, her team mate Jessica Lindstrom had 19 kills, 8 blocks, and 5 digs on the night.

Mandy Kurosky led Duluth East Tuesday as she had 10 digs, 22 kills, and 4 ace serves in the victory. Kashay Sheff added 5 ace serves and 8 digs, while Alayna Baker chipped in with 34 set assists while Sarah Baker ended with 6 kills for the Greyhounds.

The Spartans with the loss fall to 11-10 overall on the season and they will face Rice Lake on Thursday evening at Superior Senior High School.

The Greyhounds with the win Tuesday move to 5-14 on the season and the Greyhounds are back in action again next Tuesday when the Greyhounds will host cross town rival Duluth Denfeld.
