Post season awards keep rolling in for Barnum’s Katrina Newman. On Wednesday night the 16th annual state volleyball and state awards banquet was held at the Crown Plaza in St. Paul, Minnesota. Newman was named to the All-State girls Class A volleyball team.

This was the first time Newman has been named to the all-state team and was a special honor for the Barnum standout who, just earlier in the day, signed her national letter of intent to play basketball for UMD. The banquet also honored all 24 teams making the state volleyball tournament, along with 2009 Hall of Fame inductee, former Tartan coach Laura Klingsporn.

The evening was capped off with the naming of Miss Minnesota Volleyball
to Ashley Wittman of Shakopee.

The Northland was also represented in Class AA with Kayla Handevidt of the Esko Eskomos named to the Class AA team as an Honorable mention.

In the three classes there were also players of the year recognized as well. In Class A, the player of the year was Holly Hafemeyer of Bethlehem Academy. Class AA featured Julie Rainey of Stewartville as the player of the year. Ashley Wittman of Shakopee notched her second award of the night as she was also named Class AAA player of the year.
