Barnum’s Katrina Newman Honored

On Friday, the Barnum Bombers’ Katrina Newman was honored for her accomplishments as an outstanding volleyball player in the 2009 season. Newman, a five year player on the team, finished her career with 1137 kills and 668 digs.

As an eighth grader, she had 47 kills and 44 digs in her first season on the varsity volleyball team. As a freshman, Newman racked up 170 kills and 34 digs. She continued to excel as a volleyball player and in her sophomore season she contributed 153 kills and 53 digs for the Bombers.


Newman’s junior season was her most dominating at the net, recording an amazing 415 kills and 252 digs during the season. She finished her senior season by leading the Bombers to their first ever section semi-final volleyball appearance. Unfortunately, the Bombers fell to Nevis as part of an outstanding 23-3 season overall.


As a senior, Newman was one of the best players in the Northland, contributing a total of 354 kills and 284 digs in the season. Katrina Newman is the daughter of Richard and Corina Newman. She will attend UMD next year where she will play basketball for the Bulldogs. NSO would like to congratulate her and wish her well in her future endeavors.
