DeMenge’s Six Touchdowns Stops Cromwell

 

 

The McGregor Mercuries withstood a late rally in the fourth quarter to pick up a conference and sectional victory over the Cromwell Cardinals by a score of 44-41 Friday night in McGregor, as it was the Andrew DeMenge offensive showcase which led the Merc to the three point win.

 

 

Andrew DeMenge score six touchdowns on the night, he had five rushing touchdowns and added a 85 yard kickoff return to start the game as the Mercuries jumped out to a ealry 6-0 lead.

 

 

DeMenge added touchdown runs of 59,51,43,5, and 3 yards as he also had two of the Mercuries two-point conversions on the night. DeMenge finished the night with 225 yards rushing on 22 carries for an average of over 10 yards per rush.

 

 

Zion Smith threw for two touchdowns and rushed for one other to lead the Cardinals, he connected with Austin Pfisthner for passes of 7 and 2 yards in the fourth quarter but the rally wasnt enough.

 

 

Tyler Hakamaki added two rushing touchdowns on the night for Cromwell; a 45 yard touchdown run in the third quarter, and a 1 yard run in the first quarter which tied the game at 6-6 in the early going.

 

 

The win by McGregor pushes their season record to 2-3 overall and the Mercuries will look to even their season record at 3-3 next Friday night when they will face the unbeaten Floodwood Polar Bears at Floodwood High School.

 

 

The Cardinals fall to 3-2 on the season and they will be home next Friday night to take on the Isle Huskies.
