Bombers Advance To Section 5A Semi-Finals

The Barnum Bombers will be making their first ever appearance in section volleyball semifinals on Thursday night when they face Nevis as part of a double header at Brainerd High School. The Bombers will take on Nevis (22-5) at 6:00 pm. The other semifinal game will feature Bertha-Hewitt, who upset the west half #1 seed Sebeka, and Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa at 7:30 pm.


Barnum advanced to the section semi-finals by defeating East Central Tuesday night in Barnum. It was a hard fought and tight match with the Bombers winning three games to one.


Barnum controlled the first game of the match to win it 25-18.
In the second game, Barnum came away with the win once again. However, this game was stretched out a little longer with the Bombers winning 26-24. The Eagles would not go away without a fight, winning the third game of the set 25-20 to cut the Bomber lead to two games to one.


Barnum started out game four a bit on their heels, trailing 4-9. The Bombers came out well focused after a time-out, making an 11-1 run to gain control and win the match that would advance them to the Section 5A semi-finals with a score of 25-19.


Katrina Newman led the Bombers with 23 kills and 31 digs. Candice Parker added 7 kills and Jenna Zymslony chipped in with 6 kills and 13 digs. Jessica Newman paced the Bombers offense with 37 set assists while adding 9 digs on the night.


With the win Tuesday night over East Central, the Bombers improve their overall record to 23-2 on the season. The Eagles finish their season 17-7.
