Girls Volleyball

In a thrilling Lake Superior Conference volleyball match Tuesday night, The Hermantown Hawks rallied from a two-games-to-one deficit to beat the Superior Spartans 25-19, 18-25. 16-25, 25-23, 15-13, on Superior’s home court. Hermantown (10-3) recovered from a nine-point Game 3 loss to take a pair of two-point wins from Superior to seal the victory.

Hermantown was led by Emily Neumann who had 35 set assist, Katie Paczynski tallied 13 kills. Carly Hansen also added 11 kills for Hermantown, Superior was led by Jessica Lindstrom with 13 kills and 6 digs. The Spartans are now 9-6 in the Lake Superior Conference.

Boys Soccer

The Superior High School boys Soccer team took to their home field Tuesday in hopes to snap a 3 game losing streak. Superior was able to snap that streak with a 2-0 win over Washburn-Bayfield at the SHS soccer complex.

Superior scored at the eight minute mark on a goal by Josh Mentzel with an assist by Noah Peterson. Peterson scored the second goal for the Spartans with an assist from Mark Schold at the 39^th minute mark.

Goalie Conner Gray stopped 27 shots to get the shut out for the Spartans.

Girls Tennis

In Girls Tennis action the Superior High School Spartans were blanked by the Ashland Oredockers 7-0 Tuesday at the SHS courts.

Superior will host the Hermantown Hawks at 7 p.m. Thursday at the SHS courts.

FOOTBALL

Superior RB to miss remainder of season

 The Superior Senior High Spartans will be without the services of senior running back Aaron Wakefield-Zubiate for the remainder of the season with a torn ACL. Wakefield-Zubiate, who missed all but two games of his junior year with a broken fibula, suffered the ACL injury in the Spartans come from behind Homecoming victory over Rice Lake last Friday in Superior. Wakefield-Zubiate had rushed for 234 yards through four games for the Spartans before the injury.

The 5-0 Spartans can clinch a playoff spot with a victory at Eau Claire North on Friday.
