Lady Hawks pick up Tennis Victories

The Hermantown Hawks girls Tennis team picked up two wins over the last two days as the Hawks continue to prepare for the upcoming sectional tournaments upcoming soon. The Hawks picked up a big 4-3 victory over Hibbing-Chisholm on Monday and on Tuesday it was a 7-0 sweep of the Denfeld Hunters.

In the singles versus Hibbing the results were,  Janelle Shea, Hib, def. Danielle Luke 7-5, 3-6, 6-4; Madelyn Miller, Herm, def. Raini Hegblom 6-3, 2-6, 6-3; Bailey O’Connell, Herm, def. Kayley Marschalk 4-6, 6-3, 6-4; and in the last singles match it was  Molly Sciponi, Hib, def. Stephanie Collins 6-0, 6-4.

The Doubles matches saw Anna VanDeelen/Mariah Ruhanen, Herm, def. Rachel Smilonich/Jordan Hyduke 6-3, 6-3; Cassie Butler/Sara Hong, Hib, def. Liz Carlson/Liz Heehn 6-1, 7-5; Jordan Cuva/Molly Eng, Herm, def. Hannah Wentland/Maria Violentini 6-1, 6-2.

Tuesday matches against Denfeld saw Madelyn Miller def. Cassie Bolen 6-0, 6-1; Danielle Luke def. Madria Lehto 6-1, 6-2; Stephanie Collins def. Maricris Mudek 6-4, 6-1; and in a tight singles match it was Rashika Shetty def. Caitlin Shepperd 6-2, 7-6 (8-6), and for Shetty it was her first win of the season for the Hawks.

The Doubles saw Liz Carlson-Mariah Ruhanen def. Olivia Kinziger-Brittany Heskin 6-1, 6-1; Molly Eng-Jordan Cuva def. Kaylin Boynton-Kaija Ellis 6-0, 6-0; Madeline Bremel-Megan Chaffey def. Alexis Johnson-Nicole Hill 6-1, 6-1.

The Hawks have now won seven consecutive matches as they improve to 8-6 overall, and they will face the Spartans in Superior on Thursday afternoon.
