CROMWELL – The Cromwell Cardinals and the AlBrook Falcons met Saturday night in what should have been a tight Section 5 nine man football contest. However, the Cardinals easily persevered in dominating the Falcons to win the semi-final game 62-0.

The Cromwell Cardinals outgained the Falcons by over three hundred yards on the game.
The Cards finished with 435 total yards of offense while the heralded Falcon offense could only muster 91 total yards for the night. The Falcons were 7-32 passing on the evening for only 71 total yards.

The Cardinals would use a tight stiff defense and a pounding running game to dictate the tempo of the game.
Cromwell scored twice in the first quarter with the first time being when Jordan Suhonen scored on a 17 yard run. He also ran the two point conversion to make it 8-0. A few minutes later, Suhonen threw a ten yard touchdown pass to Jordan Smith and the Cardinals led 14-0.

Suhonen ran his second touchdown of the game on a one yard run to build the Cardinals’ 20-0 lead early in the 2nd quarter. Two minutes later, Suhonen scampered from four yards out to complete his 4th touchdown of the game. Jordan Smith added the two point conversion and the Cardinals led 28-0 with over 5 minutes still to play in the 2nd quarter.

John Schliauter scored on a 30 yard touchdown run with 3:31 remaining in the 2nd, Smith kicked the extra point and Cromwell led 35-0. Suhonen added his final score of the game right before half on a 6-yard run and a Smith kick for the extra point made it 42-0 at the break.

Smith then opened the scoring in the 3rd stanza on a 54-yard interception return and Dylan Mattson scored on a 4-yard touchdown run to make the score 54-0 at the end of the third. Ross Arnold added the last touchdown and conversion to advance Cromwell to the section finals on Friday night in Cromwell.

The Cardinals will be hosting the section championship game because Floodwood upset the number one seed McGregor Mercuries 20-6 earlier in the day.
