WILLOW RIVER – With fall in full swing in the Northland, there are some things that just seem to take place every year–raking leaves, setting the clock back an hour and, like clockwork if you are the ML-WR Rebels, making a trip to Public Schools Stadium for the Section 7AA football section finals. The Rebels will make their sixth straight trip to the finals onThursday, looking for their fourth consecutive title after defeating Braham 40-0 in the section semi-finals.

The Rebels turned in yet another dominate performance on Saturday racking up 438 yards of total offense, 374 of which came on the ground, in their 40-0 shutout win over the #5 seed Braham Bombers.

Austin Jacobson got the scoring started with 2:54 left in the first quarter with the first of his three touchdown runs from 10 yards out. Michael Unzen extended the Rebel lead to 14-0 with a 3-yard touchdown catch.

With 3:01 left in the third quarter, Jacobson made his way in from the 11 yard line for another touchdown and after a missed extra point the Rebels led 20-0. Jacobson added his third touchdown 1:06 into the fourth quarter when he powered in from the 1-yard line, giving ML-WR the 27-0 lead.

Unzen picked up his second touchdown of the game on a 22-yard pass from Rajean Carlson, upping his team’s lead to 33 to zip. With just over a minute left in the game, Nick Kenemore rounded out the scoring with a 27-yard touchdown run, creating the final 40-0 score.

Jacobson led the Rebel rushing attack with 165 yards on 22 carries and 3 touchdowns. Michael Unzen also went over the century mark with 113 yards on 10 carries and two receiving touchdowns. Carlson added 18 yards on 6 rushes, while Kenemore had 28 yards on 2 rushes and a touchdown. Carlson was also 5 for 8 passing for 64 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions.

The Rebels will square off against #2 seed Rush City at 7:00pm on Thursday at PSS. The Tigers gave ML-WR their closest game of the year in week two, pushing the Rebels to a 24-22 final.
