he Barnum Bombers used a dominating second half to pull away from the Carlton Bulldogs and advance to the semi-finals in Section 7A football playoffs. The Bombers built on an 8-0 halftime lead to cruise to a 33-0 victory.

Great defensive stands and tackles made the first half quite the battle, causing both Carlton and Barnum to struggle with moving the ball. The only scoring in the first half was a 54-yard interception return by Taylor Carlson late in the second quarter, giving the Bombers a 6-0 jump. The two-point conversion by Josh Hogan made it 8-0 at the break.

The interception return by Carlson was big because it was the first play following Carlton’s fourth-down halt of the Barnum offense. The Bulldogs had great field position at the Barnum 46-yard line with a first and ten.

Barnum must have made the right adjustments at the break because they came out controlling the second half by scoring 25 points and not allowing any for Carlton. Josh Hogan would score the first of his two touchdowns on a 3-yard run, putting them up 14-0. Hogan’s second touchdown run, just a few minutes later, gave the Bombers a 20-0 lead at the end of the third quarter.

Wyatt Frinifrock scored on a 2-yard touchdown run and Carlson added another touchdown pushing the Bombers to the huge win. Taylor Carlson finished the game with 142 yards rushing and Josh Hogan added 117 yards rushing in the win.

Barnum improves to 7-2 overall on the season and will host Ogilvie on Saturday afternoon. The Lions defeated Cook County 40-8 in section play Tuesday. The Bulldogs finish the season 2-6 overall and things look good as first year head coach Scott Battaglia will have several key returning players next season.
